PETER struck off the ear of the servant of the High Priest! What was the conduct of the tender Redeemer upon this occasion? Observe how instantly his power of healing was manifested. Doth not this teach us that christians are not justified, whatever may be their provocation, when they offer personal insult, or pursue vindictive measures? The religion of Jesus breathes a spirit of genuine philanthropy; its influence is benign; those who comprehend its extent, behold universal nature encircled thereby. Those persons, therefore, are abundantly more inexcusable than others, if they presume to injure a single individual of the great family of mankind, which is finally to be collected in the regions of felicity.
